Elderberry Cohousing
An imaginative cohousing community in North Carolina
Situated in a beautiful rural setting on an old 10-acre farmstead, Elderberry is an adult cohousing community and creative alternative to urban living, north of Durham and Raleigh in the Carolina countryside. The community’s vision is “to be self-managed with a commitment to care for one another as they grow older.” Elderberry will eventually have eighteen energy-efficient individually-designed homes spaced around a large, round common house designed by Deltec, a prefabricated home manufacturer headquartered in nearby Asheville. Elderberry has gardens, a central courtyard with a restored log farmhouse, and paths connecting all to the common house. It’s an established community, but enquiries from folks interested in joining them are welcome.
As they write of themselves, “Elderberry is not your usual senior retirement community. It is a new vision for the second half of life!”
