Are older people losing faith?
A report on religion in the UK
An interesting article on the decline of organised faith (predominantly Christian faith) in Britain, from The Guardian newspaper. Though written in 2000, the situation has certainly become more marked since then.
The findings contradict the commonly-held assumption that people turn to religion more actively as they confront approaching death. “It has been assumed that older people's faith remained constant, but that no longer appears to be the case,” said Professor Peter Coleman of Southampton University, which conducted the research. “This appears to be part of a general questioning of authority in society.”
A well-written and interesting article, with contributions from different viewpoints including lapsed churchgoers and humanists.
