Mental health in later life
A useful checklist from the UK Mental Health Foundation
Rather surprisingly, there are very few resources specifically focusing on the importance of taking personal responsibility in later life. This largely because of the prevailing attitude that older people need looking after and are a necessary burden on society, rather than us having the inner resources to know what we need.
An exception is this well-written guide from the Mental Health Foundation, which though it is British-based is a useful read for any older person interested in maintaining their own independence and mental health. Its ten-point checklist is intelligent and uncondescending, and the referenced resources give lots of ideas for further reading and action.
