The State of Ageing
A comprehensive survey from the Centre for Ageing Better
The UK's Centre for Better Ageing is a very active charity devoted to bringing about lasting changes in society that make a difference to people’s experience of later life, now and in the future. This means more people in fulfilling work, in good health, living in safe, accessible homes and connected communities. It promotes prompt action to secure a better future for everyone.
Each year the Centre produces a flagship report, using publicly available data to give a snapshot of ageing in Britain today and exploring the later life prospects for people currently in their 50s and 60s. The very-readable 2019 report documents both the challenges and possible solutions – “The fact that we are living longer is a great achievement. But making the most of these extra years requires fundamental changes across society. Without a radical rethink from the government, businesses and charities, more people risk missing out on a good later life. There is much to gain if we take action now, but also much to lose if we fail.”
The Centre’s message is clear: “Ageing is inevitable, but how we age is not.”
