Everything you need to know about PoA if you’re a British citizen, from the different “flavours” to how to go about preparing the necessary documentation. You don’t need a solicitor; the Office of the Public Guardian can supply everything you need, and you can even complete the necessary forms online.
If you’re married or in a civil partnership you may have assumed that your spouse would automatically be able to deal with things like your bank account and pensions, and make decisions about your healthcare if you lose the ability to do so. This is not the case. Without a PoA they won’t have the authority, so make sure your wishes are clear and thoroughly documented.
