Finding a therapist
Advice especially for older clients
“APlaceForMom” seems a multiply-problematic name for a website, but it does have a very good checklist for older people looking for a suitable therapist! Its five points are all very useful, though note that this is a US website, so the one about finding a therapist who can accept Medicaid needs to be translated if you’re not American.
As the author of the piece Kristen Hicks says, “While therapy can really make a big difference in your life, it’s important to have realistic expectations going in. The changes you hope for will take time and work, but the help of a skilled professional can help you figure out how to start down that path of making things in your life better and more productive.”
Kristen Hicks has also written another useful guide to finding an appropriate therapist, to be found on the SeniorAdviser website here.
