Sex positions for older lovers
Tips for comfortable coition from expert Pepper Schwartz
Dr Pepper Schwartz, AARP’s Love, Sex and Relationship Ambassador and author of 22 books, says that as boomers age, backs and knees can get a bit creaky. “Pain can be a real downer if you are trying to make love without distraction,” she says. It makes sense to favor positions that will help you feel as comfortable as possible. She suggests three.
Spooning is best-known as the cuddle position, and for many it's more of a go-to position post-coitally, during which both parties fall asleep. For maximum effect the man cuddles up to the woman’s back. She can either press back against him so he can penetrate her from behind, or lift a leg so he can enter from an angle. “This is a great position for backs and larger tummies,” says Schwartz.
Another comfortable position is when both partners lie on their backs, the woman puts one leg over the man’s body and picks an angle that allows entry.
Then there’s the chair position, where the man sits down and the woman faces him, sitting on his lap. The chair needs to be low enough to the ground for the woman to be able to touch the ground with both feet to steady herself. “This one is really kind on the back,” says Schwartz.
All of these, of course, assume that penetration is the goal of the exercise, and that one partner is a woman and the other a man. Never assume anything!
